Foraminifera

Arctic Ocean

 ____________

This artwork is a selection of foraminifera found in the Arctic Ocean around Svalbard and Norway.

The painting is made with my own created pigments and watercolours from sediment of the arctic deep sea.

Foraminifera are a deep-sea life form and hard to discern by the naked eye (size of a sand grain). They are very sensitive to physical and chemical environmental changes and therefore, are ideal indicators for paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic history of the Earth. They can tell us the sea level, temperature, and ocean conditions of our Earth millions of years ago.
