This artwork is a selection of foraminifera found in all our oceans. Foraminifera are a deep-sea life form and hard to discern by the naked eye (size of a sand grain). They are very sensitive to physical and chemical environmental changes and therefore, are ideal indicators for paleo ceanographic and paleo climatic history of the Earth. They can tell us the sea level, temperature, and ocean conditions of our Earth millions of years ago.
It's painted with water-soluble graphite, which is basically a watercolour on fine art paper. I did this painting during my artist-in-residency with some micropaleontologists and geologists from the university in Norway.
